BlackBerry decides to leave Pakistan due to recent demands for backdoor access

blackberry_logo_plain_black_background

Based on a new report, Pakistan’s Telecommunications Authority has demanded BlackBerry to grant backdoor access to the company’s encrypted handsets. Unfortunately, no compromise was made.

BlackBerry has responded to the request by completely eliminating influence in the territory. BlackBerry noted it’s far from willing to give up its users’ privacy and is therefore fully abandoning the country. BlackBerry stated that this was the only remaining option and was given no other choice. As it stands for now, consumers in Pakistan will no longer be able to purchase or activate BlackBerry handsets. Up until this point, Pakistan’s Telecommunications Authority has refused to settle and revise its high demands. If we hear anymore action on the topic, we’ll let you know first thing. To see the official blog post from BlackBerry, tap the source link down below.

Samsung’s mobile division may see some rearrangement in the near future

More Chinese manufactures are making their own chips

samsung_8_gb_ram_chips

It seems like every manufacture is making their own chips now a days. It used to be just the biggest manufactures like Apple and Samsung making their own chips, but now more and more Chinese manufactures are getting in on the action.

ZTE has just recently received CNY2.4 billion (US$73.8 million) from China’s National IC Industry Investment Fund. This money will be used to help accelerate their mobile chip development.

Xiaomi is another China based manufacture that will be partnering with chip designer Leadcore Technology to co-develop ARM-based SoCs for Xiaomi’s 2016 device line up.

Finally, Huawei already provides chips to many smartphone vendor’s phones. However, they are doing so well that they are becoming a real problem to mainstream chip companies like MediaTek and Qualcomm.

Karalux unveils the 24K gold BlackBerry Priv!

priv-4

Popular Vietnamese gold-plating company Karalux has today revealed that BlackBerry’s first Android-powered smartphone, the Priv, is the latest flagship handset to enlist in its vast lineup of 24K gold devices.

As the Priv supports a Gorilla Glass display and a solid textured backplate, there isn’t much surface area for the Karalux team to dip, so it could only coat the bezel surrounding the unit, the volume rocker and the metal rim surrounding the camera module in gold.

Oppo takes the wraps off the long-rumored A53 in China

Oppo A53

Following months of endless leaks, rumors and speculation, Oppo has finally taken the wraps off its latest mid-range smartphone in China. The A53 sports a similar design to the iPhone 6 in as much as it features a full aluminium body with an all glass front, but that’s where the similarities stop.

The device packs a 5.5-inch 720p display, a 1.5GHz Snapdragon 616 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, a 13MP rear-facing camera, a 5MP selfie shooter and a 3,075mAh battery.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any information with regards to pricing or an official launch date as of yet and it’s unclear at this stage if Oppo plans to offer the handset to markets outside of China, but we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer before we find out.

[Deal] Buy an extended service plan through Straight Talk today to save up to $55

straight talk logoIf you’re a Straight Talk Wireless user and you know you’re going to stick with the carrier for the next several months (or years), you may want to jump on the Cyber Monday deal they’re currently running. Normally, Straight Talk offers a slight discount if you buy extended plans that last either three, six, or twelve months at a time, which saves you a bit of money over time by costing less per month. Today they’re cutting even more off the price of those extended plans, making for some pretty good deals on several months of service.

Three months of service is $10 off at $120, six months is $25 off at $230, and a year of service is $55 off at $440. Buying those extended discounts already saves you on monthly costs, so these new discounts just add on top of that. $440 over a year puts the monthly cost right at $36, which is ten bucks cheaper than what the plan costs on a month-to-month basis.

Oppo today announced that the company would begin selling the R7s in Europe starting December 1. Those interested will be able to pick up this mid-ranger from Oppo’s own online store and through Amazon in the UK, Germany, and France.

Verizon ad wants us to disconnect for the holidays

verizon new logo

Christmas is right around the corner, and all the big brands are ramping up their advertising campaigns. Verizon has released an ad all about how their network keeps us connected during the holidays.

The ad starts out with a bunch of family members all over the country. Each person has a different lifestyle and commute, but luckily, they all have mobile devices that are on Verizon. All the different family members eventually arrive at Christmas dinner, and are happy to be together. It ends with a phone ringing, but the call is ignored. Implying, use Verizon all the time, but sometimes it’s good to disconnect too.

Samsung wants you to gift Samsung products this Christmas

Samsung-Gear-VR

Samsung has released a new ad for the holidays called “Give the Gift of Galaxy”. The ad basically shows people unwrapping presents with, you guessed it, Samsung products inside.

The ad is only 30 seconds long, but they managed to cram in a ton of products. Products like the Galaxy View, Gear S2 smartwatch, Gear VR, all of their flagship Galaxy phones, and more.

I like the end where it says “It’s not a phone, it’s a Galaxy”. While I hate the fact that they name many of their products with Galaxy first, since I always have to write it a million times, it works well for this. Implying that they have a large amount of “star” products. However, will you be giving, or wanting the gift of Galaxy this Christmas?

Mozilla doesn’t need Google’s financial support to keep going anymore

FireFox_OS_TA (1)Mozilla has previously relied on deals with Google to keep the company floating, but it looks like that’s changing. Google paid Mozilla to set Google Search as the default search engine in Firefox, but thanks to some other deals with companies like Yahoo, Baidu, and Yandex, Firefox is moving towards a less Google-influenced future.

Yahoo will be responsible for the default search queries in the US, while Baidu will handle things in China and Yandex handles Russian traffic. It’s probably better for the global internet to keep everything from going through Google by default, but with Chrome still eating up a ton of the desktop browser market and many users opting to use Google anyway, it’s hard to see this move affecting Google too much.

The Google/Mozilla deal accounted for about $330 million last year, which made up almost all of the organization’s revenue. They didn’t disclose how much the new set of deals would give the company, but Mozilla is positive about revenue for next year.

Now that Black Friday is here, the Peak’s price is even lower. You can get the smartwatch-like activity tracker for $127.

LG expanding OLED production capability

LG is just getting over pulling the 2nd generation LG Watch Urbane 2 due a problem with the display, but that is not stopping the electronics giant from investing even more heavily in organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display panels. Yesterday it was revealed that LG Display has plans to invest over 10 trillion won ($8.7 billion USD) to build a new plant producing OLED panels.

The initial investment in the plant will be 1.84 trillion won ($1.6 billion USD) to commence construction. The facility will be located in Paju, South Korea. LG Display says the facility will produce panels across the entire range of devices, from large screen televisions all the way down to small wearables like smartwatches. The plant is expected to commence production in 2018.

Although not confirmed, some sources believe part of the impetus for LG’s latest investment in OLED production is a belief that Apple will switch to the technology for use in their iPhone smartphones in 2018.

This week Amazon is offering $100 off Samsung’s latest Galaxy View tablet. Just yesterday, Samsung published its first advertisement for the all-new Galaxy View tablet.

Its super loud speakers and large size make watching videos an immersive experience you won’t find on any other device in the same class. The Galaxy View’s stunning 18.4-inch full-HD display is perfect for gaming, watching TV and lounging back to watch Netflix (as showed in the ad). Google Play credit can now be sent as a gift via email

Google Play Gift Cards Devices

In the United States only, with hopefully more countries to come, Android users can send Play credit gifts to others via email.

This is a new feature to Google Play and starts today. This gives all Android users the ability to send Google Play credit to someone via email in the form a gift. One can find the option on the sidebar of the Play Store Store where it reads “send gift.” Right now, Android users have the option to send either $10, $15, $20, $25, $50, or $100. Users are not limited to the amount of credits they can send.

Once you select the amount, you’ll have to supply an email address and include a message to send to the receiver. Unfortunately, users can’t pay with their Play Store balance and must select a valid credit/debit card on their Google account. You’ll also have the option to pay with Google Wallet. Google Play gifts is a great enhancement to Google Play and arrived in the neck of time, hopefully we’ll see more countries added in the weeks ahead.

The upgrade addresses some severe touchscreen issues that have been present on the handset ever since its launch back in April which resulted in user’s frequently having to restart their device just restore usability. It also introduces a new slow motion option in the camera application and unlinks the ringer, notification and system volumes.

As is the norm, the update is being distributed in stages. To see if it’s ready for your device head into Settings, scroll to the bottom and tap on “About Device”, hit “System Updates”, then select “Check for updates”. T-Mobile_Logo_01_TA

In addition to this holiday promotion, Sprint customers still qualify for T-Mobile’s Carrier Freedom promotion, where the Uncarrier will give you up to $650 per line to pay towards Sprint’s early termination fees (ETFs) and other remaining balances.

With this second holiday gift, Sprint customers transferring four lines to T-Mobile could get as much as $800 extra on top of the Carrier Freedom promotion.

Add some style to your wearables with the Helena Necklace and Helena Bracelet for Misfit Flash

misfit-baublebar-helena-flash

Let’s face it, most wearables don’t look that great. Even the ones that do look nice are mainly aimed at males, and you can still tell it’s a tech product. That’s where the Helena Necklace and Helena Bracelet come in.

Misfit, who was recently purchased by Fossil, has teamed up with BaubleBar to make the stlyish necklace and bracelet to hold a Misfit Flash fitness and sleep monitor. Both items will be available on November 29.

Both the Helena Necklace and Helena Bracelet look like regular pieces of jewelry, but their locket’s open up to store the Misfit Flash inside. This will allow you to continue to look stylish, but still able to monitor your activity levels such as calories burned, distance traveled, steps taken, and sleep quality.

Of course, if you are doing some serious exercising you probably won’t want to wear this type of bracelet or necklace. However, it’s very easy to pop the Misfit Flash out of them and put it back into the activity clasp or sport bracelet it came with. Perfect for when you are at the gym, or out of it.

Motorola’s Cyber Monday sale saves on last year’s phones and smartwatches

motorola_logo_string

Motorola seems to be clearing out its stock of old hardware for Cyber Monday this year. The company is discounting last year’s Moto X, Moto G, and Moto 360 models rather than the updated versions. But, know knows, Motorola could always surprise consumers with flash deals on this year’s round of phones and smartwatches. And we sure hope they do. Very few people will be inclined to get last year’s Moto X when they could just spend $100 more to get the Moto X Pure Edition. The same thing goes for Motorola’s smartwatch. All of Motorola’s Cyber Monday deals aren’t that big of a savings when you look at the current models’ prices.

Each of these deals will be live on Monday, November 30, at 12:00PM ET.

International variant of the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is now up for purchase in the U.S. on Amazon

Sony_Xperia_Z5_Premium_Colour_RangeConsumers in the United States can now get their hands on an international variant of Sony’s latest Xperia Z5 Premium.

For the first time, consumers in the United States can purchase the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium thanks to Amazon. However, just remember that since it’s an international variant it fails to include a valid U.S. warranty. If this isn’t enough to stop you, make sure the device has the proper bands for your carrier prior to buying. The handset should work on all GSM carriers such as T-Mobile, AT&T and others.

Consumers can purchase either the dual-SIM model or the single-SIM variant from Amazon. Depending on the model and choice of color, the price will vary. But either way you go, it’ll cost you a pretty penny.

Motorola starts sending out invites to an event it’s holding in India on December 1

Motorola_stock_logo_large_verge_medium_landscape

Earlier today, Motorola sent out its first batch of invitations to an exclusive press event it’s holding in New Delhi on Tuesday, December 1. Unfortunately, the Lenovo-owned company hasn’t disclosed what exactly it’s planning to unveil at the conference, but there are some hints being subtly dropped by the firm that suggest we could see the release of the second-generation Moto 360 in India.

Moto 360 Invite

We don’t have any information with regards to what price tag the device will carry in the region, but in the US it’s priced between $299.99 to $429.99, depending on configuration, which leads us to believe that we could see it hit the shelves for around INR19, 900 to INR28,500.
